Description:

For beach and surfing lovers, Costa da Caparica is arguably the best beach on the Lisbon Coast with 32 kilometers (about 20 miles) of golden sand dunes stretching from Trafaria south towards Cabo Espichel. This west facing coastline gets the full force of the Atlantic rollers and is excellent for surfing, windsurfing and kite surfing. A small train runs down the coast from Caparica to Fonte da Telha, which is around half way down the beach. Nudists take advantage of the privacy offered by some of the more remote stretches of the beach, so be prepared to avert your eyes as the train trundles past their favorite sand dunes. Towards the end of this stretch of coastline are some fabulous beaches, such as Praia do Meco, but they can only really be reached by car. There’s also a natural lagoon called Lagoa da Albufeira, surrounded by sand dunes and pine forest. The lagoon is normally breached at high tide but forms a salt water lake when the tide is out.
